THE POWER OF LIME WALLS

Not two walls are the same when using lime paint. For centuries, it has been a practical solution to protect and decorate walls with a combination of water and slaked lime. In certain parts of Europe, there was a tradition that farmers would disinfect and protect the walls of the stables from moisture with lime paint. Nowadays it is widely used in interior design, and I cannot express enough its importance. The relief creates such beautiful color nuances and adds character to the different spaces. Not only does it stores warmt in winter days, it also lets your house breath and act as a natural air filter.

Ceramics

Ceramics can play an important role in our relationship with a space, impacting its liveability and versatility. Objects made with ceramic are especially tactile. Think about the Japanese potter, who especially admires accidental effects that resemble natural forms. Objects that appear misshapen and would usually be regarded as serious imperfections in the West are admired by the Japanese. The Japanese potter likes to reveal the impress of the hand that made the object. Marks, such as the ridges left by the fingers in a newly thrown vessel, were frequently accentuated instead of being obliterated, and marks made by tools were often left untouched.

Interior design is not about choosing the right piece of furniture. It goes way beyond the aesthetic object. It is primarily about space, proportions, light and shadows and going back to the roots of the location.

GRAIN of wood

The fantastic thing about the wood I work with is that you no longer have to design or shape it; nature has already done that. The most affected, the most lived piece of wood is thus the most interesting for making unique pieces out of it. The tree will decide how long the table will be, and not the other way around. The time of the ‘custom-made’ is over, and we need to give back to nature as much as we can and re-use what it gives us. Combining an old fallen tree found in the forest could be the most unique salon table in your home.

FORM AND SHAPE

Soft edges and linear curves can make your walls play with light and shadow. Bring a deeper dimension to your walls by letting the thickness of the wall create the space.

CAsting shadows

Nowadays people want to fill there homes with bright light, making reflections on ultra clean white walls. Unfortunately they underestimate the power of shadows and how they can transform a room to an infinite space for thought. How beautiful it is to discover every room then to experience it all together at a glance.

We find beauty not in the thing itself but in the patterns of shadows, the light and the darkness, that one thing against another creates… Were it not for shadows, there would be no beauty. - Junichiro Tanizaki

natural fiber carpets

Flooring is one of the primary elements of any living space, and for a home with a natural look and vibe, plastic fibers and manufactured colors just won't do. While most carpets are made up at least partially of synthetic fibers, there are a few choices that are entirely natural. Wool, nettle, hemp, linen, …. are prized for their rich textures and authentic natural weave and the fact that they are made from eco-friendly renewable resources.

proportions

Ever wondered why you feel more at ease in older houses ? The reason is because it was mainly built and designed using classical proportions and scale. Today, most of the ancient use of proportion is forgotten, making houses look like a labyrinth; every room and hallway looks identical. Larger rooms are created, omitting the use and functionality of having different spaces with different moods. I seek to go back to this mindset and assess the current blueprint to return to this old principle.
